KUALA LUMPUR (2 JULY 2015) – CyberSecurity Malaysia, the national cyber security specialist and technical agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) is calling for stronger commitment and greater collaboration from cyber security communities around the world to achieve a cleaner and safer Internet ecosystem.

Aptly themed ‘Bridging The World – Go Cyber Green,’ the upcoming 2015 Cyber Security Malaysia – Awards, Conference & Exhibition ( CSM-ACE 2015) will take place from 6 to 10 September 2015 at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. CSM-ACE 2015 is a public-private-partnership driven event, which serves as a catalyst in driving innovation and growth in the cyber security industry.

CSM-ACE + OIC-CERT + APCERT
This year, CyberSecurity Malaysia will also play host to two regional cyber security bodies in conjunction with CSM-ACE 2015. APCERT – Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Teams and OIC-CERT – Organization of The Islamic Cooperation Computer Emergency Response Teams will be holding their respective annual conferences, further bolstering CSM-ACE 2015 as a world-class cyber security event not to be missed.

CYBER GREEN
“Bridging The World – Go Cyber Green” underscores the urgency to foster greater international collaboration to enhance Malaysia’s cybersecurity capabilities and improve cross-border collaboration in ensuring a viable and healthy cyber ecosystem. Cyber Green leverages on the collaborative potential of key stakeholders in cyberspace to bring about a clean and secure cyber ecosystem that is free from malicious threats,” said YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) during the pre-event launching of CSM-ACE 2015.

“As CSM-ACE 2015 is an international-level conference, I urge more Malaysian ICT and cyber security companies to participate and take a more active role in contributing towards Cyber Green so that our future generation will be able to enjoy a safer and cleaner cyber world.”

Datuk Dr. Ewon said it was also an excellent opportunity to showcase Malaysia’s cyber security capability to the world and to enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a country that operates high level of assurance and excellent cyber security practices.

PARTICIPANTS
According to CyberSecurity Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, more than 900 delegates from the government, public, Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) organizations and ICT industry are expected to attend the 5-day event.

CAPACITY BUILDING
“One of the key objectives of CSM-ACE 2015 is to significantly improve the skills and expand the knowledge of our cyber security professionals. CyberSecurity Malaysia will also be conducting comprehensive training programs during CSM-ACE 2015 to strengthen Malaysia’s self-reliance in technology and human resources in cyber security,” said Dr. Amirudin. Some 1,500 cyber security practitioners are expected to participate in the CSM-ACE 2015 training program.

TRADE EXHIBITION
A 3-day trade exhibition will be a key attraction at CSM-ACE 2015. With confirmed participation of close to 40 international and local cyber security companies, Dr. Amirudin expects the exhibition to facilitate greater trade and investment opportunities and thus, enable Malaysian cyber security companies to access international export markets for their latest products and services.

FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION
Following on the success from last year’s edition, CSM-ACE 2015 will once again co-host two satellite events – National ICT Security Discourse (NICTSED) 2015 and National Hacking Competition (UTP-HAX) 2015 which aim to raise awareness on the importance of cyber safety and security among young Malaysian netizens.

Dr Amirudin explained, “The National ICT Security Discourse (NICTSeD) is Malaysia’s first national ICT security school competition with support from MOE (Ministry of Education) and MOSTI, successfully achieved its goal as a method of disseminating knowledge on Internet safety in a way that would be interesting for students and teachers. The main objective of this program is to encourage the creative and critical thinking of its participants on the current internet and technological issues being discussed on a global scale and how online risk and challenges can be overcome, and in the process teachers and students thus become smart and ethical internet users.”

INDUSTRY AWARDS
At the conclusion of CSM-ACE 2015 event, the prestigious Cyber Security Malaysia Awards 2015 will be presented to highly talented information security professionals, homegrown SMEs and organizations for outstanding contributions to the Malaysian cyber security industry. A total of seven (7) award categories will be conferred during the closing ceremony.

RANAU, SABAH 22 JUN 2015 – Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) telah mengenalpasti sumber air bersih bagi tujuan penapisan air bersih untuk mangsa gempa di ranau. Sumber air bersih ini akan diproses menggunakan mesin penapis air ‘Ultrafiltration/Reverse Osmosis Plant’, ciptaan UTM melalui Pusat Penyelidikan Teknologi Membran Termaju (AMTEC) dengan menggunakan dana MOSTI.

“Mesin ini akan dapat menghasilkan air bersih daripada air laut, air payau dan air keruh. Mesin ini juga mampu menghasilkan sekitar 5,000 liter air bersih dalam masa satu jam untuk kegunaan 2,000 orang sehari tanpa perlu dimasak” demikian menurut YB Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi Merangkap Ahli Parlimen P.179 Ranau yang mengetuai Lawatan Misi Gentech : Sahabat Ranau bersama-sama Pengurusan Tertinggi MOSTI.

Misi Gentech : Sahabat Ranau turut mengunjungi Pejabat Meteorologi Ranau bagi mendengar taklimat dan laporan terkini mengenai status gempa juga ke Water Intake di Kimolohing bagi meninjau keadaan semasa serta kesesuaian menempatkan mesin penapis air ‘Ultrafiltration/Reverse Osmosis Plant’.

Dalam taklimat khas oleh Agensi Remote Sensing (ARSM) Pejabat Meteorologi Ranau, di antara teknologi sedia ada yang dikenalpasti di MOSTI adalah Teknologi Remote Sensing yang dapat membantu mengenal pasti kawasan lokasi potensi air bawah tanah. Di samping itu, ARSM mempunyai keupayaan teknologi menyediakan maklumat kawasan hutan dan tadahan air kawasan Ranau dan Kundasang serta peta 3-D kawasan Gunung Kinabalu, Ranau dan Kundasang.

Agihan air mineral, bahan keperluan harian dan sabun serbuk hasil R&D SIRIM, agensi di MOSTI turut diagihkan MOSTI beserta jabatan/agensi kepada Pegawai Daerah Ranau yang akan mengagihkan bantuan tersebut kepada mangsa gempa bumi Ranau.

SAN FRANCISCO, 12 JUNE 2015 – Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp), the lead agency for biotechnology industry in Malaysia enhanced its collaboration with the United States of America (US) with the launching of its flagship office, BiotechCorp International Inc.(BII) in San Francisco.
Since BiotechCorp’s incorporation in 2005, the organisation has undertaken various business development and collaboration with Qualitative Bio Sciences (QB3) and Larta and US based companies, including giant industry players like Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) and Haemonetics, and exciting new players like Verdezyne Inc.

The establishment of BiotechCorp’s US-based flagship office will be the contact point for bio-based and biotechnology sectors in the country, as the USA is a hub for biotechnology venture capitalists and funders, and one of the leading biotechnology markets in the world. This US-based office will provide Malaysian and US bio-based companies with the necessary support for business development activities in bringing in FDIs as well as market access.

I hope the BiotechCorp office will spur Malaysia’s own economic growth by attracting key innovative partners from USA to invest in the country and to maximise Malaysia’s immense business potential in the bio-based industry.”

Putrajaya, 8 June 2015 – “Malaysia needs to drive STI for socio economic growth by intensifying creativity and innovation; strengthening market driven research and development, sourcing and diffusing new technology; developing and attracting talent; deepening awareness on STI and strengthening collaborations and partnerships”. The statement was made by Dato’ Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd. Nur, Secretary General of The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) during her keynote address at the launching of the project “Promoting Social Inclusion Through Public Policies in Malaysia” which was held in conjunction with the Policy Initiation Workshop from 8 to 10 June 2015 in Everly Hotel Putrajaya.

In her speech, Dato’ Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd. Nur who is also the Vice President Asia Pacific Region of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Council (IGC) of the Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) for the period of 2013 to 2015, reaffirmed that the Malaysian Government is committed to embrace inclusiveness in the public policies in which inclusiveness was embedded as one of the strategic thrusts in the recently launched 11th Malaysia Plan. In addition, she also recorded appreciation to UNESCO for the assistance rendered to the Government of Malaysia particularly in uplifting the social well-being of the people through various activities that have been carried out throughout the nation.

The project which was designed by international partnership of UNESCO, UNESCAP and Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with national stakeholders especially MOSTI aims to help the government ensures that the public policies benefit everyone, including the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in the country and contribute to equitable and sustainable development.

The three-day workshop was jointly organised by UNESCO and Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The workshop provides opportunities for key players in social inclusion including international experts, policy makers, academia and civil societies to share experience with regard to the challenges faced in their countries as well as to deliberate on the existing policy interventions and approaches in promoting social inclusion.

8 JUNE 2015: EMPOWERING SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (STI) FOR SUSTAINABLE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SHARED PROSPERITY

KUALA LUMPUR (KLCC), 21 Mei 2015 – MOSTI bakal menerajui   pelaksanaan Pelan Hala Tuju Strategik Internet of Things (IoT) Kebangsaan yang bakal dilancarkan oleh YAB Perdana Menteri dalam tempoh terdekat. Teknologi ini dilihat mampu menjana peluang ekonomi di peringkat global bernilai RM890 bilion di samping nilai tambah RM6,100 bilion menjelang tahun 2020. Menjelang 2020, IoT dianggarkan berkembang pada kadar 34.1 peratus setahun di rantau Asia Pasifik.

Perkara ini diumumkan oleh YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Menteri Sains, Teknologi dalam ucapannya sempena Majlis Perasmian Persidangan dan Pameran Inovasi Kebangsaan (NICE 2015) bermula pada 21 hingga 23 Mei 2015 di Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur (KLCC) dengan temanya Melewati Inovasi (Beyond Innovation).

Persidangan meliputi setiap aspek inovasi dan impaknya kepada manusia sejagat. Program tahunan ini bertujuan untuk mengiktiraf usaha-usaha inovasi dan kreativiti rakyat Malaysia dari semua lapisan masyarakat. Hasil penyelidikan, kreativiti dan inovasi yang dijana diharap dapat terus dibangunkan supaya berpotensi menyumbang kepada peningkatan pendapatan negara.

Rancangan Malaysia Ke-11 (RMKe-11) yang akan dibentangkan dapat menjadi panduan dan hala tuju agenda pembangunan negara dalam tempoh lima tahun akan datang selaras dengan tema NICE2015 iaitu Beyond Innovation.  Sehubungan  itu,  ekosistem Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (STI) negara akan terus diperkukuhkan dan STI will have a special role in this final lap to achieve a developed nation status”, kata YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin.

MOSTI turut berkeyakinan Kerajaan akan terus komited memperkasa agenda STI negara melalui peruntukan di bawah RMKe-11 bagi membiayai projek-projek R,D&C yang bersifat game changer, meningkatkan sistem penyampaian perkhidmatan STI negara dan membudayakan STI di seluruh kalangan masyarakat. 

MOSTI juga yakin akan mencapai sasarannya pengkomersilan 360 produk R&D yang berimpak tinggi menjelang 2020.   Bagi membolehkan  lebih banyak produk R&D membuat anjakan ke pasaran (move to market) Kerajaan juga telah bersetuju memperluas skop dana R,D&C yang diurus oleh MOSTI bagi turut membiayai aktiviti facilitation seperti rekabentuk, pembungkusan, akreditasi, kajian pasaran, dan up-scaling.

Tambah YB Menteri lagi, skop dana pre-pengkomersilan MOSTI kini turut diperluaskan bagi meliputi inovasi sosial di bawah program MOSTI Social Innovation atau MSI yang telah dilancarkan pada 16 April 2015 lalu. Inisiatif ini meliputi pembangunan atau pelaksanaan idea samada yang berbentuk produk, perkhidmatan atau model bagi memenuhi keperluan sosial (meeting unmet social needs) dan juga meningkatkan keupayaaan individu untuk bertindak melalui jaringan kerjasama pelbagai pihak.

Laporan Global Innovation Index 2014 menyenaraikan Malaysia pada kedudukan ke-33 terbaik daripada 144 negara. Laporan-laporan ini menunjukkan prestasi negara yang amat membanggakan dan seharusnya menguatkan lagi tekad dan semangat kita semua untuk lebih berusaha dan lebih berinovasi dalam mempertingkatkan imej dan daya saing negara”

NICE 2015 yang menampilkan penceramah dalam dan luar negara telah berjaya menarik penyertaan 1000 peserta persidangan dan mempamerkan 81 pempamer, mengandungi empat (4) komponen utama iaitu:

  1. Persidangan Inovasi dan Pengkomersilan serta Breakout Session;
  2. Pameran Produk Finalis Anugerah Inovasi Negara;
  3. Pameran dan Penjualan Produk R&D yang dikomersilkan; dan
  4. Pengiktirafan kepada perekacipta inovasi melalui Malam Anugerah Inovasi Negara.

Malam Anugerah Inovasi Negara (AIN2015) pula  akan berlangsung pada 23 Mei 2015 (Sabtu) yang akan dirasmikan oleh YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Hj. Muhyiddin bin Mohd Yassin, Timbalan Perdana Menteri. Pada malam tersebut, empat anugerah akan diberi kepada mereka yang layak mengikut kategori berikut :

KUALA LUMPUR (KLCC), 23 Mei 2015 – Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI)  mengiktiraf minda-minda cemerlang dalam bidang penyelidikan, pembangunan dan pengkomersilan (R,D&C) dalam majlis khas iaitu Malam Anugerah Inovasi Negara 2015 (AIN 2015). YAB Tan Sri Datuk Haji Muhyiddin Hj Mohd. Yassin, Timbalan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia telah berbesar hati menyampaikan AIN 2015 yang menyenaraikan empat (4) kategori utama, iaitu:

“Tahun 2015 merupakan tahun ke-9 AIN dianjurkan dan telah menerima penyertaan yang menggalakkan daripada pereka cipta di pelbagai peringkat. Ini terbukti dengan penerimaan sebanyak 709 penyertaan (secara keseluruhan) berbanding  hanya 430 penyertaan pada tahun 2014, peningkatan sebanyak 64.9%. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan keupayaan rakyat Malaysia dalam membudayakan inovasi kian menggalakkan”, demikian menurut YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi dalam ucapan alu-aluannya.

Selain daripada AIN 2015, YAB Timbalan Perdana Menteri turut menyampaikan Anugerah Saintis Muda Negara (hadiah bernilai RM20,000.00) dan Anugerah Juruteknologi Negara (hadiah bernilai RM10,000.00) sebagai mengiktiraf sumbangan dan pencapaian mereka dalam memajukan penyelidikan sains, teknologi dan inovasi  (STI) Malaysia.

AIN 2015 yang merupakan acara kemuncak Persidangan dan Pameran Inovasi Kebangsaan 2015 (NICE 2015), bertemakan Melewati Inovasi (Beyond Innovation), 21-23 Mei 2015 turut memperlihatkan kesudian YAB Timbalan Perdana Menteri menyerahkan Baju Panas Student on Ice : Arctic Expedition 2015 kepada dua pelajar dan seorang guru dari negeri Terengganu dan Maktab Rendah Sains Mara yang akan menyertai ekpedisi pendidikan ke benua Artik melalui program Students on Ice bermula daripada 27 Julai sehingga 10 Ogos 2015. Program ini dianjurkan oleh Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan Mizan (YPASM) dan MOSTI dengan kerjasama kerajaan Negeri Terengganu juga Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
