Pengenalan

MOSTI mengambil inisiatif untuk mengadakan Pertandingan Projek Penyelidikan Inovasi Nanoteknologi (PIN) Peringkat Kebangsaan 2016 sempena Program Nano Kebangsaan 2016 (NanoKEB 2016) yang akan berlangsung dari 10 hingga 12 Oktober 2016 di Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Pertandingan ini terbuka kepada para pelajar universiti awam dan swasta seluruh Malaysia. Pertandingan ini diadakan bertujuan untuk memberi peluang kepada pelajar-pelajar daripada peringkat Sarjana dan Doktor Falsafah membentangkan idea kreatif dan inovatif dalam penyelidikan dan pembangunan nanoteknologi merangkumi penghasilan bahan, teknologi dan aplikasi nanoteknologi dalam pelbagai sektor. Antara objektif pertandingan adalah seperti berikut:

  1. Menggalakan penglibatan penuntut institusi pengajian tinggi di dalam program yang dianjurkan oleh kerajaan terutamanya program MOSTI;
  2. Menerapkan nilai-nilai penghayatan sains, teknologi dan inovasi terutamanya nanosains di kalangan pelajar universiti;
  3. Menyemai daya pemikiran lebih kreatif dan inovasi dalam penyelidikan kepada pelajar universiti; dan
  4. Menggalakan pembangunan nanoteknologi dan penghasilan bahan untuk aplikasi dalam pelbagai sektor melalui penyelidikan.

Sehubungan itu, pertandingan ini diharap dapat memberi kesedaran, menyemai dan meningkat minat para pelajar universiti mengenai kebaikan dan kehebatan sains dan kejuruteraan terutamanya nanoteknologi di dalam kehidupan. Pertandingan ini juga dilihat sebagai salah satu inisiatif NND dan MOSTI dalam memartabatkan sains, teknologi dan inovasi dalam institusi pengajian tinggi di Malaysia.

Pengenalan

Sempena Program Nano Kebangsaan 2016 (NanoKEB 2016) yang akan berlangsung dari 10 hingga 12 Oktober 2016 di Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, MOSTI mengambil inisiatif untuk mengadakan Pertandingan Penulisan Esei Nanoteknologi (PENT) Peringkat Kebangsaan 2016. Pertandingan ini terbuka kepada para pelajar sekolah menengah seluruh Malaysia. Pertandingan ini bertujuan untuk mencungkil bakat para pelajar dalam bidang penulisan esei di samping memberi peluang untuk menterjemahkan sains, teknologi dan inovasi khususnya nanoteknologi dalam konteks penulisan. Justeru itu, pertandingan ini merupakan salah satu platform untuk memupuk kesedaran, menyemai minat dan menambahkan ilmu pengetahuan para pelajar dalam sains, teknologi dan inovasi khususnya nanoteknologi.

Pendedahan kepada ilmu, aplikasi, teknologi dan inovasi mengenai nanoteknologi kepada para pelajar khususnya agak kurang jika dibandingkan dengan perkembangan pembangunan nanoteknologi di Malaysia. Fenomena ini dilihat agak membimbangkan kerana para pelajar ini merupakan pelapis masa depan negara dalam memacu pembangunan dan ekonomi Malaysia menuju ke arah negara maju. Sehubungan itu, pertandingan ini diharap dapat memberi pendedahan dan pengetahuan kepada para pelajar dalam usaha NND untuk melahirkan pakar nanoteknologi negara dari kalangan rakyat Malaysia.

Syarat-syarat dan peraturan serta borang penyertaan bagi Pertandingan Penulisan Esei Nanoteknologi (PENT) Peringkat Kebangsaan 2016 bolehlah dimuat turun seperti berikut:

KUALA LUMPUR, Monday, 8 August 2016 – Science, technolgy and innovation is widely acknowledged as a catalyst for the economic growth. In order to ensure that science systems can play this role, it is essential for countries to develop an STI policy and see through its implementation. However, despite this not all developing countries have STI policies. It is on this need and the increasing importance of STI in national development that the International Science, Technolgy and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC) organises the Training Programme on STI Policy and Management. The programme for this year held from 8-12 August 2016 aims at providing professionals who will drive the development and implementation of science, technology and innovation and programme for the developing countries and emerging economies. Participants will be provided with the necessary knowledge and skills in the development and management of a national STI policy in support of social-economic transformation. Thirty participants representing twenty-four countries have been selected for this programme. This eighth programme in STI Policy and management organised by ISTIC is conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) and the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Centre Organisation (ISESCO).

This year’s programme focuses on High Technology Export (HTE) as its theme as HTE is an important indicator of the economic status of the country. Participants will be taken on a site visit to the Malaysian Technology Park where they will have the opportunity to get an insight into the successes in support towards the development of high technology firms, issues and challenges and how developing countries can harness the potential of science, technology parks in the creation and development of high technology firms in contributing towards high technology exports and economic development.

Participants in this programme will be able to pursue an extended programme through online learning centre and if successful obtain the UTM-Perdana – ISTIC Professional Certificate of STI policy Management awarded jointly by the UTM Perdana School of Science, Technology and Policy. This would enable the participants to apply for a Master’s programme at the same school.

ISTIC is committed in ensuring developing countries are not left behind in the pursuit of economic advancement, impeded by the absence of a technological capability to harness new opportunities, that will generate income, jobs and revenue for government.

The training programme was officiated by Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar Haji Yahaya, Secretary-General, representing Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia.

PULAU INDAH, 2 OGOS 2016 – Ekspedisi Pelayaran Saintifik Kebangsaan (ESPK) 2016 yang diterajui oleh Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) melalui usaha sama Strategi Lautan Biru Kebangsaan (NBOS) bersama Pusat Hidrografi Nasional (PHN), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) dan Jabatan Laut Malaysia (JLM) bertujuan untuk mengkaji kelestarian ekosistem marin dalam menghadapi perubahan iklim Negara yang semakin tidak menentu.

“Ekspedisi ini diharap dapat meningkatkan produktiviti negara dengan memberi maklumat kepada Kerajaan untuk mengambil keputusan dalam perancangan pembangunan negara bagi menangani isu lautan kebangsaan terutamanya pengurusan lestari perikanan, Coral Reefs, Food Security, Ocean Warming and Sea Level Rise serta status ancaman bagi persekitaran marin zon pantai dan pulau” Kata YB Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau semasa melancarkan EPSK 2016 di Pusat Hidrografi Nasional hari ini.

“Data kajian yang diperoleh dari persisiran pantai dan laut dalam juga dapat digunakan untuk merencana pembangunan komuniti yang tinggal di kawasan pantai dan mengatasi masalah ancaman persekitaran maritim daripada perubahan cuaca dunia” tambah Madius lagi.

Sustainability of Malaysian Water in Changing Climate dipilih sebagai tema ESPK 2016 dengan fokus pengumpulan data dalam empat bidang utama oseanografi dan sains marin iaitu fizik, kimia, biologi dan geologi. ESPK 2016 merupakan kesinambungan daripada Ekspedisi sama yang diadakan pada tahun 2009 yang telah menemui empat (4) spesies baru ikan marin daripada sejumlah 213 ikan marin dan satu spesies nudibranch yang di rekod di kawasan Terumbu Layang-layang. Selain itu, pelbagai spesies rumpai laut dan makro alga turut ditemui yang berupaya membuka ruang penyelidikan baru dalam bidang farmaseutikal dan akuakultur.

Ekspedisi akan melibatkan seramai 70 orang penyelidik dan mengambil masa selama 45 hari (2 Ogos – 23 September 2016) meliputi kawasan Zon Ekonomi Eksklusif (EEZ) di Perairan Laut China Selatan.

Turut hadir semasa majlis pelancaran ESPK 2016 ialah YBhg. Laksamana Madya Dato’ Anuwi bin Hassan, Timbalan Panglima Tentera Laut, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar bin Hj. Dato’ Haji Baharin Dato’ Abdul Hamid, Ketua Pengarah, Jabatan Laut Malaysia dan YBhg. Laksamana Muda Dato’ Pahlawan Zaaim bin Hasan, Ketua Pengarah Hidrografi.

BUKIT JALIL, 19 July 2016 – In its effort of commitment to enhance industry competitiveness through ICT, MOSTI through its agency, MIMOS Berhad today launched MyTrace.

MyTrace was developed by MOSTI agencies; namely MIMOS, which developed the technology platform, the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) which provided biotechnology-based DNA marker for authenticity verification of the premium durian, and the Department of Standards Malaysia, which established the traceability procedure standards for Malaysian agro-food exports; in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture as regulatory body for Phytosanitary Certificates, and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), which established the process as well as implemented the e-commerce platform.

“In a competitive global economy, the challenge for manufacturers and their suppliers is to continuously improve their product quality and compliance with government and industry standards and regulations,” Madius said at the launch ceremony of the MyTrace food traceability system, here, today.
“Moreover, to sustain and succeed in a niche segment such as premium food, exporters need appropriate technologies in all stages of the supply chain. With the right ICT technologies, you can add value to your product, gain higher premium and protect your business from market cannibalisation by competitors,” he said.

He said that the MyTrace system had integrated two of today’s biggest technology trends – the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) – which are the fastest growing areas of opportunities today. “By integrating these emerging technologies into the products as a service, the export of Malaysian premium agro-food can present a high-potential new business model,” he said.

“The government would create more opportunities to position Malaysia as hub for premium products and next-generation technologies. With the digitisation of more vertical sectors, we will be on the right track to transforming our digital economy,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 MAY 2016 – In 2012, Algaetech International Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian-based biotechnology company awarded with the BioNexus Status, embarked on a multi-million project to produce the natural compound Astaxanthin from the microalgae “Haematococcus Pluvialis”. Astatude was designed in the best of labs, formulated with ingredients of the highest quality and extracted from the earth’s most natural resources. The product is developed for the international market and targeting age groups of 25 and above. Astaxanthin is a known super antioxidant obtained from the microalgae ‘Haematococcus Pluvialis’, which has stood against the test of time with high-end essential oils that prevent free radicals from damaging the skin.

Speaking at the launching ceremony today in Sunway Putra Mall, Dato’ Paduka Syed Isa Syed Alwi, Algaetech founder and CEO, said his company is proud of this momentous occasion as it leapfrogs Malaysia into the peaks of the global algae and cosmetics industry. He has dedicated this achievement to the SME Masterplan High Impact Programme (HIP) 5: Catalyst Programme for Bionext Initiative, which is being jointly implemented by SME Corp. Malaysia and Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp). HIP 5: Catalyst Programme is designed to remove market barriers and provide targeted assistance to potential high growth firms to become home grown champions. Algaetech is involved in the field of microalgae research and development as well as the production and marketing of high value algae products. It established itself as a pioneer in the algae industry since its inception in Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil. Algaetech is expected to launch its health supplement range in September which is currently undergoing licensing reviews by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau.

10 Mei 2016 – Baling, Kedah: Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi terus komited dalam usaha untuk meningkatkan minat masyarakat dan pelajar terhadap STEM dengan menyediakan pelbagai program bercirikan sains, teknologi dan inovasi (STI). Innospace merupaakan salah satu platform yang digunakan oleh MOSTI untuk membudayakan STI dikalangan komuniti terutamanya yang terletak di luar bandar.

Program selama dua hari (9-10 Mei 2016) yang dijalankan dengan kerjasama Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Kedah dan Pejabat Ahli Parlimen Baling melibatkan pelbagai aktiviti bercirikan STI kali ini diadakan di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Pegang, Baling Kedah. Penglibatan jabatan/agensi MOSTI dalam modul pendidikan seperti Jelajah Ikon sains (Agensi Nuklear Malaysia), Eksperimen Sains, Bioshow, DIY Rocket Launcher dan Cerapan Langit Malam (Agensi Angkasa Negara / Yayasan Angkasawan Malaysia).

Seramai 200 orang pelajar dan 10 orang guru terlibat secara langsung dalam program ini di samping masyarakat setempat yang turut menyertai aktiviti cerapan langit malam yang dibuka kepada komuniti. Selain daripada itu, 3 buah bas pameran daripada Pusat Sains Negara, Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia dan Unit Pameran Bergerak Cetree Universiti Sains Malaysia dan ianya dibuka untuk kunjungan pelajar dan orang ramai.

YB Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi dalam ucapannya Semasa menutup program ini, menekankan kepentingan STI dan memberikan inspirasi kepada para pelajar untuk terus konsisten dan meneruskan pembelajaran dalam bidang berkaitan STI.
