SHAH ALAM (FEB 5) : Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili was guest of honour at the 10th anniversary celebration of local mobile phone maker CSL Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd on Feb 5. He also launched two new products developed by CSL – the Blueberry@9500 and G5VGame - at the event held at Wisma CSL. In his speech, Dr Ongkili lauded the only wholly-owned Malaysian mobile phone company for its innovative products that had penetrated the global market. “Without doubt, the advent in technology has propelled the mobile phone industry, including in Malaysia.
With the integration of technology, innovation and creativity, bountiful new business opportunities are created in this field,” he said. The minister added that the implementation of innovative ideas for commercialisation was what the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) was pursuing in an effort to encourage the people and industry to embrace innovation and creativity for the benefit of the country. “Through innovation and creativity, Malaysians can help put the country on the global pedestal and at the same time make Malaysia a centre for innovation and creativity,” he added. Dr Ongkili also pointed out that the Government’s target of 50% household broadband penetration rate by the year end presented another avenue for creativity and innovation to play a crucial role. “With the fast-advancing mobile phone technologies, I believe that innovative mobile telecommunication will assist us to achieve the target. This is especially so, as more and more people are using mobile Internet to access their emails, conduct banking transactions and also interact through social networking websites such as facebook, while on the move,” he said.
