COURTESY CALL BY H.E. CHRISTIAN REHREN, AMBASSADOR OF CHILE TO MALAYSIA ON YB. DEPUTY MINISTER

PUTRAJAYA, 12 April 2012: Ambassador of Chile to Malaysia, H.E. Mr Christian Rehren paid a courtesy call to YB Datuk Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, at the ministry this morning. He was accompanied by Ms Tamara Villanueva, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Chile in Kuala Lumpur.

Ambassador Rehren was pleased to acknowledge 33 years of diplomatic relations between Chile and Malaysia and was hopeful that the excellent relationship between both countries could be further strengthened through joint ventures and collaboration especially in the field of science and technology.

During their 45-minute discussion, Datuk Fadillah Yusof and Mr Rehren touched on a wide range of topics pertaining to science and technology cooperation between Malaysia and Chile. Mr. Rehren expressed confidence that Malaysia as a new member of the Antarctic Treaty System could now play a bigger and more prominent role in the Antarctic research and the preservation of its environment. The Chilean ambassador also expressed his country’s willingness to assist Malaysian scientists attached to Malaysia Antarctic Research Programme (MARP) in joint research programmes in the Antarctic.

Also present during the meeting were YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Khatijah Yusoff, Deputy Secretary General (Science & Technology) MOSTI, Mr. Ho Koon Seng, Undersecretary of International Division, MOSTI, Mr. Nasaruddin Rahman, Academy of Sciences Malaysia and  two researchers from the University of Malaya.
