Kuala Lumpur, 22 March, 2012 – YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) launched the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) initiative at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today. The event was organized by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
The Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) initiative and Database was developed as part of ASM’s focus on fostering a culture of excellence in science, technology and innovation (STI). Malaysian scientists contribute significantly to the economic growth of the nation via generation and dissemination of knowledge, wealth creation and productive pursuit of scientific excellence for the benefit of humanity. In relation to this, the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) Database aims to recognize and showcase the accomplishments of Malaysian research scientists as role models of excellence, mentor to the next generation and leaders to forge ahead with science, technology and innovation (STI) agenda or the nation.
YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili expressed confidence that TRSM will evolve into a reliable, accurate and comprehensive database of STI capabilities in the country and highlight our talent. He also added, “The TRSM database will highlight Malaysia’s strengths and interest. This will potentially expedite linking our scientists with world renowned STI centres through joint collaborative efforts.
The TRSM Database is open to those who are actively involved in research in the last five years with at least 10 years cumulative contribution towards the progress of STI and have been nationally and internationally recognized.
The President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, said that, “The TRSM initiative and database will serves as a centralized point of reference on leading scientists in Malaysia toward creating a hub for knowledge dissemination that can spur the growth of STI in Malaysia.
