YBM PRESENTED MSC MALAYSIA APICTA 2012 AWARDS AND OFFICIATED CYBERJAYA INFRA CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 2012

Kuala Lumpur, October 16, 2012 – Science, Technology and Innovation Minister YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili presented the APICTA Malaysia 2012 Awards to 14 categories winners and 18 merit recipients at a ceremony organised by MDeC, today.

The winner include mobile telecommunications solutions company, ADAcode Systems Sdn. Bhd., who beat out the other 31 finalists to win the coveted Best of the Best, Prime Minister Award at this year’s local ”Oscars of the ICT World”. The MSC Malaysia Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) a jointly organised programme by The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM).

Once again themed ‘Stimulating Creativity, Innovation and Excellence in ICT,’ the 2012 ICT Awards saw 342 entries submitted, a 39 percent increase over last year. With 18 categories representing various components of ICT, the awards are opened not only to local ICT companies, but also individuals and students. This year, the newly introduced category, ‘”Best of Sustainability and Green IT” is further ramping up the dynamics and diversity of the competition for local talents. Beyond 14 individual category winners, 18 participants were also chosen as Merit recipients within the respective categories.

“The MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards is the perfect platform to cultivate the steady stream of innovators, technopreneurs, thinkers and visionaries. These individuals are able to look beyond the state of the nation’s ICT industry and execute initiatives for themselves, their businesses and their community, that will make Malaysia a force to be reckoned with globally,” said YB Datuk Seri Maximus Johnity Ongkili, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at the awards presenting ceremony.

The winners for the APICTA Awards were as follows:-

•    Best of E-Government – ADAcode (ADAcode system Sdn. Bhd.) Also recipient of the “Best Of the Best” Prime Minister’s award.
•    Best of Sustainability and Green IT – High Precise Forest Monitoring (Cube Global Sdn. Bhd.)
•    Best of Media and Entertainment – Masatu (Agmo Studio Sdn. Bhd.)
•    Best of Start-Up Companies – Piktochart Sdn. Bhd.
•    Best of Tertiary Student Project – Software/Hardware – Asia Pacific University College of Technology and Innovation (UCTI)
•    Best of Primary Student Project – Urban Landscape of Putrajaya (SK Putrajaya Presint 11 [1])

“To date, the APICTA Competition has given out more than 170 awards to organisation, start-ups, SME’s and MNCs, Schools and Tertiary Institution. We a proud that over the past 12 international APICTA Awards Malaysia has won 35 awards and 42 merit wins and with the total tally reaching 77, making us the highest achievers currently.

All MSC Malaysia APICTA winner and Merit Recipients, through the MDeC-Cradle Collaboration will go on to represent Malaysia at this year’s International APICTA Awards which will be held in Brunei Darussalam on December 5, 2012.

Earlier, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Ongkili launched the Cyberjaya Infra Conference & Exhibition 2012, organised by Setia Haruman Technology Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Cyberjaya.

The conference highlights factors that have made Cyberjaya a unique choice for many notable ICT companies, including being the only town ship in Malaysia that has high speed fiber-optic open access infrastructure. This infrastructure network provides business with the option of using services from 10 different telcos, enabling world renowned companies to set up operations in Cyberjaya and connect to different parts of the world.

Cyberjaya currently has 35kms of fiber-optic cables that has been laid in the city. To further improve the competitiveness of Cyberjaya, Setia Haruman Technology will provide high speed internet broadband at 100mbps for SME businesses @RM999, the first of its kind in Malaysia and it is currently only available in Cyberjaya, at this cost.

The Cyberjaya Infra Conference & Exhibition 2012 also witnessed the launch of a test bed project call WiFi Cloud. This Technology is currently being tested in Cyberjaya in collaboration with MDeC, who is the strategic stake holder in ensuring Cyberjaya’s development as a premier ICT hub in Malaysia. This WiFi Cloud Test Bed project is part of a broadband initiatives that ensures high speed access to the community in Cyberjaya.
