PUTRAJAYA, 1st November 2013 – Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin received a courtesy call from Dr. Sueo Machi, Japan’s coordinator for Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) at his office today.

During their brief discussion, Dr. Machi invited YB Datuk Dr. Minister to the 14th FNCA Ministerial Level Meeting scheduled on the 19th December 2013. He also updated YB Datuk Dr. Minister on the regional nuclear safety cooperation and the Japanese nuclear policy after the Fukushima incident.

In response, YB Datuk Dr. Minister informed Dr Machi that Malaysia is still exploring the possibilities on using nuclear energy as an alternative to replace natural gas and fossil fuels. He also commended Japan’s efforts in sharing her experience in nuclear safety and security and further hoped that this cooperation would be strengthened under the ambit of FNCA.

Dr. Machi was accompanied by H.E. Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador of Japan in Malaysia, Ms. Noriko Hayakawa, Second Secretary and Ms. Moe Aoki, Researcher, Nuclear Cooperation and Fusion Energy Affairs Division, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

Also in attendance during the courtesy call were YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Rosli Mohamed, Secretary General of MOSTI, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar Yahaya, Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Mr. Ho Koon Seng, Under Secretary (International), Mr. Adib Abd. Rahman, Under Secretary (Industry), YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Lebai Juri, Director General of Nuclear Malaysia Agency and Mr. Hamrah Mohd. Ali, acting Director General of AELB.
