KUALA LUMPUR (Nov. 7, 2012): Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili today held a meeting with Mr Graeme M. Coomber and Dr. Kevin O’Brien of Global Innovation Solution, as well as Dr. Khalid M.R. Al-Ruwaihi of Universiti of Bahrain and Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia Board of Trustees member Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim, at the sidelines of the World Innovation Forum – KL (WIF-KL).
Apart from discussing the outcome of WIF-KL, organised by MOSTI dan Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia, which concluded today, they also discussed the possibility of creating a Carbon Management and Sustainability (CMS) Ecosystem for Southeast Asia. Under this proposal, nodal points in the United States, Britain and the Middle East will be linked to Malaysia. This is to share data and calibrate carbon capturing technologies for commercial applications.
YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus suggested a refined proposal taking into consideration matters raised at the meeting, for MOSTI to consider hosting a workshop to develop a roadmap and R&D programmes related to the Southeast Asia Carbon Management and Sustainability Ecosystem.
He proposed to hold the workshop during the first quarter of 2013, with potential participation from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry, universities, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Independent Power Producers and Petronas.
