KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 – The inaugural National Quality Summit 2012 (NQS 2012) which kick off gathers more than 200 participants to share current developments and best practices in quality in ensuring the relevance and sustainability of businesses.
Themed “Quality – An Imperative for Business Sustainability”, the summit, organised by SIRIM Berhad also explores in detail on the importance of quality to an organisation in sustaining its competitiveness, and how quality enables global market penetration in sectors such as manufacturing, education and healthcare.
The two-day summit was officiated by YB Datuk Hj. FadillahYusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.  Also present was Dr.ZainalAbidin Mohd Yusof, President and Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad.
Datuk Hj. Fadillah said, quality management is one of the top issues that will differentiate between a successful and non-successful organisation.  “Non-conformity with quality standards may hinder an organisation’s sustainability while innovative advances in quality systems can move the organisation to the top,” he said.
“I find it timely that this summit discuss on the importance of conformity assessment and business sustainability that have a relevant impact to the economy,” he added.
SIRIM President & Chief Executive Dr ZainalAbidin Mohd Yusof said SIRIM has established several tools and systems for companies to continuously improve themselves such as SIRIM Green 5-S Standard and the Total Quality Fast Track Model.
“Moving rapidly for the past few years, SIRIM has kept pace with industry competition and developing standards for motorised vehicles, light-emitting diodes (LED) and cyber security,” he said.
The National Quality Summit is divided into five sessions with 16 papers to be presented by international and local speakers who are the icons of quality in their respective fields.  It is moderated by the top management of SIRIM Berhad led by Dr ZainalAbidin.
Two International speakers namely Dr Gun-WoongBahng, the Principal Research Scientist of Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), and Mr Tony Di Palma, Managing Director of IQ Net, Switzerland presented their paper on the first day of the Summit.
