Kuala Lumpur, 5 September 2013 – Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. (ATSB®) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) jointly organized a Small Satellite Colloquium (SSC2013) from 5 until 6 September 2013 held at the campus located in Gombak was launched today by YB Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation attended by almost 100 participants that include both government agencies, academia, students and industry both local and international organization.
The theme “Space Technology” comprise of various scope including space propulsion, manufacturing material for Space, Space Law and Regulatory, Satellite Sub-systems & Technology, Satellite Image Processing, Project & Risk Management, Satellite Testing and Validation, Sensors and Payloads Technology and other related filed in space technology.
This is the second colloquium held by Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. as the organizer of the Small Satellite Colloquium which is expected to be organized on yearly and rotation basis with local universities as the strategic partner for the colloquium.
“In line with YAB Prime Minister intention towards innovation progress via quadruple helix SSC2013 objective to embrace space development technology in the country – an ideal platform to promote research & development intellectual discourse through paper presentation and disseminate information accordingly amongst academia, students and industry players parallel to the Ministry’s vision and mission,” said YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation.
ATSB® and IIUM also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their cooperation to set up and administer space and satellite technologies programme. Present at the event is YBhg Prof Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, Rector of IIUM and YBhg Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, ATSB Chief Executive Officer witnessed by YB Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation. The cooperation was to improvise and nurture the understanding of space and technologies programme in the small satellite business in Malaysia.
Malaysia currently remain as the leading country in space research and development programme in the South East Asia which is followed closely by Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and other neighboring countries as the latest report March 2012 made by an independent company.
