KUALA LUMPUR (10 September 2015) : Malaysia through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and its R&D agency, CyberSecurity Malaysia is leading the way in addressing cyber security issues.

“The appointment of CyberSecurity Malaysia as Deputy Chair of APCERT is testament to Malaysia’s leadership in the field of cyber security, which is now recognized globally. This is in line with Malaysia’s commitment to become a global reference center for cyber security, particularly among OIC countries and also the Asia Pacific region,” said Minister Datuk Madius Tangau,

Thirty-six countries from Asia Pacific and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) converged here to find ways to make the Internet ecosystem cleaner and healthier, he said at the Cyber Security Malaysia Awards, Conference & Exhibition or CSM-ACE 2015 from 6 until 10 September 2015.

Among the cyber security agendas discussed include information sharing, enhancement of members’’ effectiveness and efficiency in technical and administrative capabilities, strategic directions and future challenges.

At the opening ceremony on Thursday, Madius was please to note that Malaysia had successfully hosted the one-of-its-kind, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT) and the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Conference 2015 under one roof.

This was in conjunction with the CyberSecurity Malaysia’s election as the new Deputy Chair for Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Teams (APCERT) during APCERT’s AGM.

“Other than that, I am proud to announce that during the OIC-CERT AGM yesterday, CyberSecurity Malaysia’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Gen. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired) was reappointed as the adviser to OIC-Cert.”

“This year’s theme ‘Bridging The World – Go Cyber Green’ underscores the urgency for all countries to foster greater international collaboration. ‘Go Cyber Green’ means to ensure our cyber ecosystem is clean, secure and free from malicious threats,”

MOSTI strongly supports the Cyber Green initiatives in Malaysia. As an agency under MOSTI, CyberSecurity Malaysia has, through intensive Research & Development (R&D) initiatives, evolved to a globally renowned cyber security organisation. One exemplary R&D project launched by CyberSecurity Malaysia on 17th February 2015 is Cyber Forensics X Lab, a state-of-the-art R&D lab which is developing facial recognition technologies,” he said.
